Castlefrank PES Summary

The feedback expressed a concern with the traffic at the intersections of Pickford at Kakulu. A new traffic count was done and noted a low volume of under 2500 vehicles/hr and a crossing guard is present.

The feedback expressed a concern that the paths behind the school are not winter maintained. OSTA has confirmed that the paths are not winter-maintained.  Consequently, they have been removed from our distance calculation.

The feedback expressed a concern with traffic on Katimivik. There is a hazard zone for the Kindergartens and grades 1-3 cross with a crossing guard.

The feedback expressed a concern with the commercial traffic at the intersection of  Kanata at Aird. This intersection is in a hazard zone for grades 1-3.

The feedback expressed a concern for traffic on Shear but this is a residential street with low traffic volume and a low speed limit.

The feedback expressed a concern with traffic and the crossing of Castlefrank. There are sidewalks on both sides of Castlefrank and a crossing guard at Kakulu.

The feedback expressed a concern with the lack of place to cross on Pickford however this is a residential area with low speed limits. There is also a sidewalk on one side.

The feedback expressed a concern with traffic on Hazeldean however no students are expected to cross Hazeldean.

The feedback expressed a concern with traffic on Kakulu but this street has a sidewalk on the north side and a crossing guard at Pickford and at Castlefrank.

The feedback expressed a concern with the path not having a crossing at the end of the path, nor a complete sidewalk on the south side of Kakulu that comes from Shearer. This path way has been removed from the distance calculation.

The feedback expressed a concern that the Castlefrank at Kakulu crossing guard’s times won’t change with any bell time change. If the bell time changes, the crossing guard’s times will also change to meet the school community’s needs.

The feedback expressed a concern with traffic on Katimivik however there is a hazard zone for Kindergartens and the grades 1-6 can cross using two 4-way stops with a 40 km/hr speed limit.

Outcome: Paths at back of school removed from distance calculation because they are not winter maintained. The path that goes from Shearer to Kakulu has been removed from the distance calculation because there is no intersection to cross to the sidewalk on the other side.
