Update on Transportation Services 2023-2024 School Year

Last Updated on: 25th July 2023, 03:55 pm

The Ottawa Student Transportation Authority (OSTA) is currently planning transportation services for the upcoming academic year. At OSTA, our top priority is to offer exceptional, safe transportation services to parents, students, and school communities.

Working Together

Over the summer, we worked with our partners at OCDSB, OCSB, and the Ministry of Education to address the expected $6 million funding shortage for the upcoming school year. Through negotiations, we have secured $75M in funding and are now in talks with our service providers to finalize contracts within our available resources.

Over the next month, OSTA will

  • Review routes, schedules, and service standards to ensure delivery of consistent quality service;
  • Negotiate new service contracts with our transportation service providers for both yellow school bus and van service where contracts have come up for renewal;
  • Collaborate with an independent third party to review transportation services to develop a financially sustainable plan moving forward.
  • Update our parent portal by Aug 23, 2023

On-going Review

Over the next year, we will look to align our service delivery within the provincial transportation funding formula. The new formula prioritizes needs and distance to schools for equal access to student transportation across Ontario.

Commitment to Excellent Service

OSTA, the OCDSB, the OCSB and the Ministry of Education – are committed to working together to deliver safe, effective and efficient transportation services for students in the City of Ottawa.
